The most recent Jewish cemetery in Brest was a large site to the northeast of the central city. If your ancestor died between 1850 and December 16, 1941 --when the Jews of the city were moved into the Brest Ghetto-- it is likely he/she was buried in this cemetery. Details.

The cemetery was destroyed by the Nazis SS and German Army in 1941 -1942. Nothing was spared. The tombstones were removed by direction of the Nazis and used for building purposes. Details.

These stones have been found all over Brest. Photos.

In 2002, the Brest Jewish community proposed a memorial at the site. Details.

Funding is being sought for a memorial park and monument designed by Brest Architect Nikolay Vlaysuk. Details.
