In September 2005, a group of thirty-three people from the United States, Canada and Israel visited Brest, Belarus, and a smaller group including Larry Schenker, Dvorah Netzer, Ruth Baidatch (nee Netzer) and Ruth Bedrax visited Wysokie. Our Belarusian guides for this trip were Oleg Medvedevsky, Galina Swartz and Arkady Blacher.

In an Old Jewish Neighborhood
The following group of photos were taken in 2005 in what had been the old Jewish neighborhood off old Bridge Street.

This area was a short walking distance to the Old Shul.

Living conditions are difficult for some of the residents: The elderly woman (pictured above) replenish the water inside of her home from the outside water-well. There is no motor to lift the heavy bucket filled with water, just the hand lever.

Number 14
We found a home with a street number of 14, in the old Jewish neighborhood. This was demonstrated by the mounting holes for a mezuzah still visible in the doorframe. If you view the Morris Tannenbaum Map (above) this house is in the area of #3. We were introduced to the woman now residing in the home by Alla Petrovna Agarkova, headmistress of the local high school.
