UNIFORM TI DE REBUS A CAROLO GUSTAVO SUECIAE REGE GESTIS COMMENTARIORUM

Thank you for visiting your Brest Shtetl web site. We encourage you to contact us if you would like more information.

ERIK DAHLBERG’S ENGRAVING OF BREST SYNAGOGUE
Click on the above photograph to enlarge.
In the above photograph the building marked with "G" is identified as "Synagoguae Indeorum".

The Swedish artist Erik Dahlberg (1625 – 1703) is reported to have done an engraving or drawing of the synagogue that was built in Berestye (Brest-Litovsk or Brisk) in the 16th century, maybe about 1569. It is said that the engraving or drawing shows the synagogue as a “brick two-storied building with renaissance features”.

The below three pages are from the book "UNIFORM TI DE REBUS A CAROLO GUSTAVO SUECIAE REGE GESTIS COMMENTARIORUM." The author is Samuel Freiherr von Pufendorf (1632 - 1694) and was published in Nuremberg, Germany in 1697 by Christophle Riegel. A copy of this book is in the Anne S. K. Brown Military Collection, Brown University Library, Providence, Rhode Island 02912-0001, USA. Our thanks for copying the above photograph and the below pages goes to Peter Harrington the Curator.

We would like to have someone translate the below text into English.
